The company had passed an on-site audit of its records. Working inside the sales operation, we found that dead stock had been recorded as sold, inflating reported revenue. The discrepancy came to light during due diligence.
Kredo gives investment teams operational evidence they can use to assess reported performance and decide where further attention is needed.
We work across departments inside the companies you finance, comparing day-to-day operations with financial and results reporting.
For fund managers, DFIs, family offices and other investors backing operating businesses in sub-Saharan Africa.
Financial statements and results reports are essential inputs to an investment decision. Understanding the operation behind them takes time on site: how departments work, how data is produced and whether the reported figures are supported by day-to-day activity.
Kredo adds that operational evidence to due diligence and portfolio monitoring, particularly where regular access is difficult.
The company had passed an on-site audit of its records. Working inside the sales operation, we found that dead stock had been recorded as sold, inflating reported revenue. The discrepancy came to light during due diligence.
Project reporting looked normal, but a site evaluation found the brooding flock was no longer in place. Because the issue surfaced late, the funder chose to concentrate on a country where it had closer oversight, and the region lost the program.
The lesson: in both cases, observations inside the operation revealed discrepancies in reported performance. Earlier visibility would have given the parties more options.
Every company works differently. We embed ourselves across its departments, build an operational model of the business, and compare it with financial statements and results reporting.
Working alongside the team helps us understand how decisions, activities and data connect. We tailor the checks to the company and document the assumptions, data gaps and limits of the evidence.
We spend time in the different departments, alongside the people doing the work. We learn how processes connect, how decisions are made and where the data comes from.
We map how the company’s activities, resources and cash flows connect to its reported results, then test those relationships using the records and observations available.
We check the operational model against financial statements and results reporting. We investigate discrepancies with management and distinguish observed facts, explanations and matters that remain unverified.
We build dashboards that bring the company’s operational and financial data into a clear, shared view, helping teams track performance and keep funders informed.
We turn what we learn on site into recommendations the company can act on: improving processes, resolving bottlenecks and strengthening its reporting.
We agree the scope, report recipients and process for raising material issues before work begins. Management can check facts and provide context; the final report records unresolved differences and goes to the agreed recipients.
Verification findings are presented separately from recommendations for operational improvement.
Document review is AI-assisted. Sources, checks, calculations and assumptions are documented so investment teams and management can review the basis for each finding.
Where regular site access is difficult, a clearer view of operations can support investment and follow-up decisions. We work with companies to make performance easier to assess and reporting easier to substantiate.
Commission a check before an investment, during portfolio monitoring or when reported performance needs a closer look.

| Verification diagnostic | An operational model, documented checks on 12 months of data, 3–5 days embedded on site, and a findings brief with recommendations and evidence limitations | Fixed fee, 3–4 weeks |
| Ongoing verification | Monthly operational and financial checks, a multi-day site visit each quarter, and a quarterly brief tracking findings and agreed follow-up actions | Retainer, per portfolio |
